Hello! I’m Heather.
I currently work as the Assistant Recreational Riding and Volunteer Manager for the American Motorcyclist Association in Ohio.
In 2015, I completed in-depth training to be certified as an MSF RiderCoach for the state of Ohio, teaching people how to ride streetbikes for the first time or how to improve their skills. I’m also a Lead Instructor Trainer Expert for the new MORE curriculum for the state. Safety is of utmost importance to me, and I wanted to empower others to ride safely.
I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking with my dog or on a motorcycle. Ohio has some of the most beautiful landscape, but I also enjoy traveling in my free time.
I’m a graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. One of the top journalism schools in the nation. Go bobcats!
My bachelor’s degree is in journalism, with my major being strategic communications (public relations/advertising). My areas of emphasis within my major were marketing and sociology. I also received a minor in organizational communications and a certificate in professional sales.
Following graduation, I moved across the country to Orange County, Calif. to work for the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, ATV Safety Institute and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association.
I am also an Ohio 4-H alumna. I spent ten years in the program, and it remains near and dear to my heart. My experience ranged from training and showing dogs to leadership opportunities to serving as the 2010 Ohio Fairs’ Queen and traveling to 88 fairs in Ohio. I now volunteer with the program.
From December 2014 to December 2015, I fostered service dogs in-training for 4 Paws for Ability. I raised puppies from the time they were approximately 4 to 9 months old. It definitely kept me busy! In December 2015, my second foster puppy decided not to graduate from 4 Paws University, and I adopted him as my own.
I also volunteer with the Appalachian Championship Enduro Series, maintaining their website, social media, email blasts and marketing materials.
I aspire to continuously improve my skills as a communications professional and never stop learning.
Take a look around my site to learn more about my skills and professional experience. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss opportunities in more detail. I am always interested in connecting with others in the industry.
